Jude Law's ex Sadie Frost comes clean
It looks like British actress and clothing designer Sadie Frost has given up on celebrity men for good. The former wife of actor Jude Law says she's looking for a man who doesn't have a thing to do with show business. "I don't think it's fair to be in a trailer from 6 in the morning and not getting home until 9 at night and the children being brought up by nannies," Sadie told reporters at the Kill Bill premiere last week. "I'm not so much into actors. I would rather go and meet a Spanish builder with his top off, and he's working and slaving. I don't want any of those film star people. Just a nice guy, you know." A TV crew is scheduled to film a documentary on Law's ex, covering the depression she experienced from her much-publicised break-up and her newfound hope with 23-yearold flamenco guitarist and model Jackson Scott. On her relationship with Jackson, Sadie has said: "I'm feeling much happier. We've had our moments, but we are very much a couple. I'm having lots of fun. I want other women in similar situations to see that if I can get through this, so can they."
Pierce Brosnan’s giving ways
Hayden's Australian dreams
Hayden Christensen is planning to head back to Australia so he can explore the Outback and the Great Barrier Reef. The Canadian actor has spent years travelling back and forth to Sydney filming the Star Wars prequels, but he has always been too busy on the set to explore Australia's wilderness. He says, "There's tons of stuff to do but there was just no time to do it, which sucked. When I was there I didn't make it outside of Sydney and that's despicable. "I was staying on Bondi Beach, and there's no reason to leave Bondi when you just have one day off. But there's so much there that I have to go check out. It's a pretty diverse country. I got to go see The Outback. I got to go see The Great Barrier Reef while it's still there. There's lots to do."
Halle Berry furious over axed spin-off
Actress Halle Berry is fuming after movie bosses axed her plans to make a film based on the character she played in James Bond movie Die Another Day. The Oscar-winning screen star played sexy CIA agent Jinx in the movie alongside 007 Pierce Brosnan, and was desperate to portray the character again in a franchise of spin-off action films. But now the project has been spectacularly canceled by studio chiefs, much to the disgust of the 37-year-old actress. An insider says, "Halle is absolutely furious. She thought she was going to become the female James Bond in a series of films. Now it's been canceled with little explanation." Executives at MGM made the decision over the weekend and have instructed Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson to stop developing the movie.
Hugh Jackman tipped for Bond role
Hugh Jackman is the new favourite to take over as the next James Bond. A source at 007 movie makers Eon says, "A lost of possible successors has been drawn up, and Hugh is at the top. He's got everything the producers are looking for - dark good looks, an athletic build, a sense of humour and box-office clout. At 35, he is also the right age." British actors Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffudd, Jeremy Northam and Paul Bettany have all been put in the frame - but they have now reportedly been eliminated. Bond director Lewis Gilbert adds, "You can't have someone too young playing Bond because they would never be believable in the part. Chances of getting a superstar like Russell Crowe are slim. Hugh fits the bill."
Britney explains ‘adult’ image
Although Britney Spears seems to be cultivating a more adult image lately, the pop starlet says that's not the case.
"The record label wanted me to do certain kinds of songs, and I was like, 'Look, if you want me to be some kind of sex thing, that's not me,'" Spears tells Esquire magazine in its November issue. "I will never do that. I'm still doing what I love to do."
J Lo to appear on talk show
Latina sensation Jennifer Lopez has been unveiled as the producer behind a new daytime television show - on which she will occasionally appear. The Maid in Manhattan star will work on the new program at an executive level and her sister Lynda will be one of four hosts fronting it. And although the Gigli beauty has promised to make a series of appearances as a guest on the show, Universal Domestic Television executives insist that she won't be a regular fixture. Vice president Lisa Hackner says, "Will she be on the show every day? No. Will she be there during the ratings (sweeps) periods? If she can, she will be there. We'll see her occasionally." Casting decisions for the other three hosts of the untitled series has begun.
I'VE 10 YEARS TO LIVE: Pamela Anderson
Baywatch actress Pamela Anderson says hepatitis C, which she was diagnosed with in 2001, will probably kill her in a decade. Despite her illness Pamela says she's been feeling well. "I think I've got a good 10 years left in me, which is sad, too. Maybe 15, if I'm lucky," says Anderson. "It's scary, but lately I've been feeling great. For some reason, my liver keeps getting healthier." The 36-year-old actress, who starred in the TV shows Baywatch and V.I.P., also says she's no longer planning to marry singer Kid Rock, to whom she got engaged in April 2002. "We're not engaged anymore. Our relationship is not really something you put a label on," she says. "He wanted to buy me a house in Malibu, California, (in August), but the thing is, I really just need to be with my kids and work on their relationship with their father." That would be former Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, with whom she resolved an ugly custody battle in January. The couple married in 1995 and divorced three tumultuous years later. "There's definitely a lot of love and history between Tommy and me, that's for sure. It doesn't matter whether we're together or not. We're crazy about each other - always have been, always will be," Anderson says. "I'm just happy that my kids (Dylan and Brandon) are having a healthier, better relationship with their dad. "Now we spend a lot of time together as a family - we go to movies, we cook dinner"
Elton John goes to Vegas
Elton John has inked a monster three-year deal to perform 75 shows at Las Vegas' Caesars Palace beginning in February. “I cannot do this show anywhere else the world except here," the sequin-friendly singer said at a gas press conference Tuesday. "It's back to costume changes and Velcro." The deal, in the works for months, had been pegged by Billboard as worth upwards of $54 million, but John played coy when asked how much he was making. "Let's just say, I'm very well paid," he cracked.. The Rocket Man will perform with his band five times a week for five weeks a year at the Palace's Colosseum, the specially designed venue where Celine Dion currently holds forth. John's show, titled The Red Piano, will not affect Dion's, who is locked into a three-year, $100 million contract. Elton will begin his first series of performances February 13-22, while Dion is on vacation.
The Red Piano, billed in a press release as "a distinctive show [blending] Elton's breathtaking music with vibrant visual imagery," will be designed and directed by photographer David LaChappelle. "The wild and wacky days are here again," said LaChappelle. Elton, 56, has been keeping plenty busy. Aside from his humongous garage sale, he's been busy working on two musicals--a London version of Billy Elliott to open in 2004 and a Broadway adaptation of Anne Rice's The Vampire Lestat--and is also providing music for a new Fox TV show produced by ex-Hardy Boy Shaun Cassidy.
Colin Blonde Farrell not having fun
Movie wildman Colin Farrell is fed up with his new blonde hairdo - because women seem to disapprove. The actor has had his hair dyed for new movie Alexander, and can't wait to get his original colour back. A source says, "Colin can't wait to get rid of the blonde hair because he thinks it makes him look like an effeminate surfer boy. "He says he gets more attention from gay men than women, and has taken to going out with a hat on."
Beyonce sued for stealing Survivor
Beyoncé Knowles be a Survivor, but man is claiming she got a little help along the way. A Miami-based producer is suing Knowles, her father and fellow Destiny's Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams for $200 million, claiming they ripped off his music for use in the 2001 hit single Survivor. Knowles' publicist issued a "no comment" on Tuesday when asked about the may one allegations. Terrence "T-Robb" Robinson says the song swiping occurred after he produced a track called Glorious in June 2000 and, four months later, sent it to Beyoncé's father and Destiny's manager, Mathew Knowles. Robinson's attorney, who filed suit in Houston on October 14, says his client was unaware that the song had been used until he heard it on a commercial. Now, Robinson's lamenting what could have been. "I know right now I would be one of the biggest, most sought-after producers," he said at a news conference on Tuesday. Attorney Peter J. Clarke admits that Robinson's song wasn't originally copyrighted when he passed it along to Mathew Knowles, though it later got copyright protection. It's the second lawsuit sparked by Survivor. Last year, former members LeToya Luckett and Latavia Roberson sued the R&B group over a lyric in the Grammy-winning song they claim caused them irreparable harm. Luckett and Roberson were ticked over the line: "You thought that I'd be stressed without you/But I'm chillin'/You thought I wouldn't sell without you/Sold 9 million." While Beyoncé denied the lyric had anything to do with the two singers, an undisclosed settlement was reached with the former Destiny's children.
Neve Campbell: Not famous anymore
Neve Campbell claims she is glad that her popularity isn’t the same as it used to be. At the height of her fame some years back, the Scream actress had to bear the brunt of various stalkers and obsessed fans. As she explained to a newspaper, “I’m very grateful that my career is not at the height it once was. I had to deal with several stalkers and plenty of strange letters. The people who are watching me now have jobs and lives and families. I don’t get the obsessive stuff any more.”
Sean Penn: Trouble, thy middle name...
Sean Penn has always courted controversy. From being labelled “unpatriotic” to being Hollywood’s bad boy, the actor has been there, done that. So it’s no surprise that his latest role is a sympathetic portrayal of a would-be presidential assassin and airplane hijacker. In his latest flick, The Assasination of President Nixon he’s a social misfit who longs to be part of the system but is rebuffed at nearly every attempt. Recently, the Dead Man Walking star made it clear that he did not like the Iraq war policies of George W Bush. So much so that he even visited Iraq before the US-led invasion in 2003 to get an up close and personal view of the reality there. But he defends himself saying, “I'm not anti-American. If I understand what it means, I can't imagine anything more anti-American than trying to shut people up," says Penn. The 44 year-old has been one of
Hollywood's most hardto-figure actors for years. But then, he did win the best actor Oscar for his role in Mystic River last year. “I have nothing to complain about," he says.
Carmen Electra: Checking out other men!
Sexy actress Carmen Electra says she’s not got a problem if her man is slightly out of shape. One of the world’s most beautiful women, the buxom brunette says she has never been bothered about dating a man who is not well-toned. Says she, "I don't mind if a guy's body isn't perfect." However, despite recently getting married to rock guitarist Dave Navarro, this former Baywatch babe admits she still checks out other guys.
Kate Hudson: An intimate interview with Kate Hudson
Although she’s in an enviable position to pick and choose roles, 24-year-old Kate Hudson prefers to play mother to her son
As one of Hollywood’s most sought-after young actresses — and especially after the success of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days — Kate Hudson is in the envious position of being able to pick and choose her roles. But the 24-year-old actress says she made a snap decision about Raising Helen, a romantic comedy from Pretty Woman director Garry Marshall, about a rising executive at a top Manhattan modelling agency who suddenly finds herself having to care for her sister’s three young children. “I simply connected with the script emotionally,” says the Oscar-nominated actress, who gave birth to a son, Ryder Russell Robinson. It’s the first child for Hudson and her husband of four years, Chris Robinson, front man for the music group the Black Crowes. “I always wanted to be a mom,” says the Los Angeles native, who admits she’s inspired by the close relationship she enjoys with her mother, actress Goldie Hawn, and Hawn’s longtime partner, actor Kurt Russell, whom Hudson affectionately refers to as “Pa.” Balancing career and family is an opportunity relished by the upbeat, golden-haired actress, who talks about her movies and her family.
In your film Raising Helen, your character suddenly finds herself raising three young children. As a new mom, the timing couldn’t be better, could it?
It came at a time when I was thinking about having kids, so it kind of perfectly matched my mindset at the time. But there were moments when we were filming when the three kids were all talking to me at the same time and there was all this craziness and I just thought, is this what my life is going to be like? But truthfully, I think actors should be attracted to things that challenge them. I feel very fortunate to be 24 years-old and play a character like this. Complicated roles like this don’t typically come around until you’re in your mid-30s. And part of the comic appeal of Helen is her lack of preparedness and understanding of what it takes to be a parent.
And how prepared were you when your baby arrived?
It’s incredible. Nobody ever tells you how hard it’s going to be. It’s like everybody keeps all the hard stuff away from you. When I was pregnant I got so much advice that I just started tuning out. But I have such great parents and I look to them when it comes to family issues. I was lucky enough to watch them raise my younger brother, Wyatt, and I can only hope that when Ryder gets older and when we have more kids, that they like me as much as I like my mom.
So you’re definitely planning to have more kids?
We’re just playing it by ear. I need a break to go out and have a couple of drinks before I go and do this all over again! It has been a long time since I’ve been able to go out and have a nice night with my husband.
How’s Chris at changing diapers?
He’s great! He doesn’t change too many diapers. He says it’s because everybody gets so excited when the baby poops that he doesn’t even get a chance to get close to him.
How does your mom feel about being a grandmother?
She’s very happy. Both she and Kurt were just so thrilled. I remember being rolled out of the surgery room right after I had the baby and I looked up at pa and said, “Did you meet Ryder Russell?” It was the first time he heard his name. That was a great, great moment for me and for him.
How did you arrive at the name Ryder?
Ah, that’s a good story! Actually, there are two reasons why we picked Ryder. First, Chris was on tour and I was on the road with him during my third trimester. Every night he ended the
show with a song called “Ride.” And Ryder would go insane in my stomach every time that song was played — it had to be the bass line. Anyway, I made a joke and said, “Wouldn’t it be funny if we called him Ride?” Also, we’re fans of the Grateful Dead and their song I Know You Rider and I said, “What about Ryder?” It sounded great and it fits him perfectly because he never stopped moving in my stomach.
You were being stalked? By paparazzi?
Yes. Guys were actually dressing up as scrubs in order to get into the hospital and security guards had to be outside my room. It was kind of hurtful. It’s just really sad that that part of your life can’t be yours, especially when I’ve been so open to the media. But I guess that’s the nature of celebrity today.
Has loss of privacy been an ongoing issue for you and Chris?
It has been pretty bad for a while now for a lot of people. Occasionally a few people go by your house and they say, “So-and-so lives there,” and I wonder, is that really interesting? Granted, I’m in a different position, but the work that people do is interesting. Seeing a film that’s exciting and bigger than life — that’s interesting. The celebrity aspect of an actor’s life is not interesting to me.
