Before you turn your nose up at the idea of aquarium fish as a status symbol, let’s clarify that we aren’t talking about the ubiquitous goldfish bowl. The latest indication of a healthy bank balance is a well-maintained marine aquarium, with its own anemone, clown fish (made popular by the film, Finding Nemo) and more exotic species like the scorpion fish, the Moorish idol or the Picasso triggerfish. Marine fish are several times more colourful and eye-arresting than their freshwater counterparts and come at a heftier price tag. Also, remember that many of these species are endangered and buying them without proper documentation could result in a large chunk of your bonus being spent on bailing yourself out of prison.
